DVD・VHS「The Laughing Man」

Yesterday 22nd June 05, Production IG announced the release schedule for a Stand Alone Complex support DVD, titled "The Laughing Man". This 140mins DVD condenses the main "Laughing Man" plot and storyline from SAC 1st season, bundled with some extras. This revised edition also includes enhanced graphics for HD TVs if I'm not mistaken.

The Laughing Man DVD
The Laughing Man DVD

DVD「The Laughing Man」

Release Date: 23rd September 2005 (scheduled)
Main DVD Info:
BCBA-2344
Approximately 140 minutes
Dolby digital (5.1ch stereo)
Single sided 2 layer
Picture ratio: 16:9
Bonus DVD:
Approximately 30 minutes
Dolby digital (stereo)
Single sided 1 layer
Picture ratio: Standard

Recommended Price: 8190 Yen
Licensed Seller: Bandai Visual

The Bonus DVD comes with:

The VHS version is the same 140mins, you don't get the Bonus material, and it costs more: 10,290 Yen. So its best to stick with the DVD :). Too bad they don't intend to include English subtitles for this release... Seems like international fans of SAC and The Laughing Man gets the short end of the stick again (US might get a release, but US DVDs are not exactly compatible with other region DVDs, plus I don't see Fan Disc Interval yet... so....)

Lucas' SEGA GITS Collection Figure Vol.3 Gallery

In these "slow" times where there doesn't seem to be much Shirow news, and in the same vein with the previous update, here's my SEGA Prize Ghost In The Shell Collection Figure Vol.3 Photo Gallery! ^_^ This set of 3 is a Motoko-only line-up featuring Major Kusanagi in 3 different costumes as seen in the manga:

Lucas' SEGA GITS Collection Figure Vol.2 Gallery

Here is a little Gallery I made for my SEGA Prize GITS Collection Figure Vol.2, a figure set that I really like very very much ^o^/ How do the photos look? I like the pose of the figures, and the Batou for this set is the best I've seen so far. Enjoy~ ^_^ ( p/s: Lucas is currently in the very deep end of Shirow figure collecting... which is quite worrying...! )

Sighted at Shizuoka Hobby Show 2005...

The Shizuoka Hobby Show 05 took place at Shizuoka, Japan (obviously) on the 14th & 15th May 2005. I thought there was no Shirow, but I saw something today. A month late, but this is worth posting. Take a look:

GUN PLATFORM
o_o WOW. Now THIS looks pretty good.

The only good thing that came out of the Appleseed 3D Live Movie, Gun Platforms! I believe this woud be part of a set of the new Appleseed Gashapons coming out soon (Ref to WonderFest 05 post for this item, or reference picture), but I'm not sure. It would be great if I'm mistaken and this turns out to be a proper collection figure. I said it might be a Capsule Toy sized figure because if you noticed at the background, is the out-of-focus errr... un-inhibited backside of Yamato's Intron Depot Galhound Figure ^_^;; so relative to that, this Gun Platform does seem to be much smaller. But nonetheless, very cool sighitng!

Appleseed US DVD: Top in 2005?

APPLESEED DVD SALES SURPASS EXPECTATIONS.
Geneon Ent. reported that DVD sales of APPLESEED have exceeded expectations
with more than 85,000 units sold to date since the title’s May 10 release,
setting a new standard for anime titles released in North America, and
shaping up to be one of the top anime releases of 2005.

Major retailers have sold the majority of their initial orders within the
first two weeks, with reorders already in place. Geneon Ent. supported the
release with a major marketing campaign, including and breaking out of the
traditional anime mediums. “American audiences are hungry for complex adult
animation and APPLESEED’S record pace is an indication of the broadening
appeal of the anime genre,” said Yosuke Kobayashi, president/ceo, Geneon
Ent.

From Masamune Shirow, the creator of THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, APPLESEED
opened in a limited theatrical run earlier this year. The sci-fi anime
action-adventure features “3D Live Anime,” a new animation style blending
motion-capture technology and 3D computer animation, enhanced by the latest
in 2D character animation.

A leading supplier of Japanese animation in North America, Geneon Ent.
(USA) Inc. (www.Geneonanimation.com) is a full-service producer and
distributor of entertainment content including film, music, animation and
television shows on DVD and CD. Headquartered in Long Beach, California,
Geneon Ent.’s parent company is Tokyo-based advertising giant Dentsu Inc.

Lucas: From this press release, it seems that sales of the Appleseed US version DVD is a good indication that it would be among the top-selling anime DVD titles in 2005. Much better than the theaterical release anyway...

My Collection Update~

Well, I've been away for many days and guess what... More Shirow stuff~ ^_^ Here's a quick summary of what I managed to add to my collection this last week: [Figures] - SEGA Ghost In The Shell Figure Collection Vol.2 (Set of 3), YAMATO Intron Depot Ballistics [Books] - Appleseed 01&02 (Kodansha), Appleseed 1 - 4 (Media Factory Mini Comic). Time for some quick pictures (sorry for the quality, I'm still no good at photography). I still haven't unpack the figures, but eventually I plan to do a photo collection of the figures I manage to get... anyways, have a look:

All Together!
Group Picture of the New Stuffs added to my Shirow collection this past week ^_^

No.1 SEGA Ghost In The Shell Figure Collection Vol.2
This item is pretty "outdated" (well, still can be considered new I suppose! ^_^) which I've talked about in previous post. Anyway, after much searching, I manage to get myself a set of this delicious SAC series figure set. They are really lovely! I particularly like the Motoko and Batou Ninja suit figures. Pose is so cool~ ^_^ SEGA PRIZE remains my favourite GITS Figures maker ^_^ Top marks! Great reputation!

GITS Collection Figure Vol.2
Motoko (Opto-cam), Batou (Ninja Suit), Motoko (Ninja Suit)

No.2 YAMATO Intron Depot Ballistics
This is another figure that was just recently released by Yamato Toys. Its based on the Intron Depot 3 Ballistics covergirl and the details on this figure is outstanding! Very beautiful figure and I am really glad I reserved this one. I didn't get the Galhound figures (financial consideration mainly) and I am regretting that quite abit. But anyway, since this character (Ballistics) does seem to have some kind of history with Appleseed and Shirow himself gave fully satisfied approvals of this illustration in his ID3, I decided that this is a must-have for me. I'm a happy Shirow fan just looking at this fine figure ^_^~

Ballistics! Gun Pose!
Ballistics Girl, BIG GUNS included! ^o^

Close-up
A close-up look at the detailed (and pretty) face

No.3 APPLESEED 01 & 02 (KODANSHA KCDX), APPLESEED 01 to 04 (MEDIA FACTORY)
I simply couldn't resist a new Masamune Shirow Appleseed cover! The Kodansha Appleseed 01&02 re-prints Shirow's original 1985 Appleseed 01 & 02 published under Seishinsha previously. Apart from the large size format, the Appleseed comic itself is nothing new (Anyway, detailed review, I leave it for another day). The new cover by Shirow was nostalgic and offers a glimpse of what Appleseed could have been if Shirow decided to continue... The Media Factory (MF) versions of Appleseed books were the opposite in terms of size. I thought these petit-sized Appleseeds were novel adaptations initially but after a quick browse at Kinokuniya after unwrapping, they are comics! So I grabbed all four books without the least bit of hesitation :P (again, review I save for later).

Appleseeds, big & small
The New Appleseed books in my collection

Well, that's enough pictures for now. ^_^ A week full of Shirow goodness and excitement is pretty distracting I must say!

GITS SAC Visual Book & Innocence International Version DVD

As reported over at sTwo's Shirowledge, the following GITS merchandise were announced:

Tachikoma!

GITS STAND ALONE COMPLEX Visual Book Special Edition : Tachikoma File
Release Date: August 22, 2005
Publisher: Hobby Japan
Price: 2,100yen (tax-included)
ISBN: 4-89425-381-X

This one's due in August, and so far I'm still not sure whether this is just a Special Edition with Tachikoma, or a totally new book. There will be some 2nd Gig material for sure (and the Tachikoma) but I will try to find out if this is Visual Book 2nd Gig, or an upgrade of the original SAC Visual Book. Confirm later when I manage to find anything...

2. Also, on 2nd June 05, Production IG announced the release of GITS 2: Innocence International Edition DVDs this coming September. This item comes in the standard edition DVD, and a Limited Edition [Type Motoko] DVD. The Limited Edition production is only 1000 sets. Which in other words, is TRULY limited, and super-expensive ^_^;

Innocence International DVD

GHOST IN THE SHELL 2 INNOCENCE INTERNATIONAL VER.
Release Date: September 7, 2005
Price: 3,990yen (tax-included)

Motoko Puppet

GHOST IN THE SHELL 2 INNOCENCE INTERNATIONAL VER. Type MOTOKO
Release Date: September 7, 2005
Price: 31,290yen (tax-included)

This Motoko-doll (or puppet) is about 40cm high! (which is just about the height of 31,000 sheets of Japanese Yen :P) And at a Limited production of 1000 sets, this is one super-rare collector's item. BUT~ I don't know... I really don't associate this doll with Motoko at all... and you can imagine trying to sleep (peacefully) at night with this 40cm gun-totting ...artificial-female-thing... staring at you. ~_~ I bet if it twitched you'd be selling it off at Ebay without second thought :P. Come on DVD-marketing people! Give us a 40cm Briareos! Now THAT would be a different story! ^_^

TANK SWAT Official Website Updated!

TANK SWAT OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Since my last post about TANK SWAT, the Official Site has been updated with a brand-new look and more proper contents. Now, we have News/Information, Story Summary, Production Credits List, and a Tank Depot section (under construction, but I think it should contain some Tank Swat goodies when done! ^_^). Anyway, the Trailer page has been taken off, and we shall see if it will be available again in the near future. But more urgently, now we await the pending release of TANK SWAT 01 in DVD, which should be real soon since the Test Screen in Osaka was done on 29th May 05.

New Look!
