sTwo's Galgrease Artbook Scoop!!

Shirowledge faithfulls should have read the ( good / bad / strange ) news by now: Our resident Shirow fan in Japan (sTwo-san that is) has called in publisher Kodansha personally and managed to get the latest updates on what's going on with this much anticipated art collection.

In summary, we are expecting 8 volumes of Galgrease Artbooks, 1st issue due in November 2005 and the rest to follow in a somewhat irregular 2-month (some many more months interval) release pattern. This will continue until Book #8 in September 2007. Another thing worth mentioning is the "Streaming Artbook" concept, where sTwo reported that Galgrease artbooks will be presented in story form instead of your usual stand alone illustrations collection.

Visit sTwo's Shirowledge for a more detailed, first-hand report ^_^b

Don't touch my XXXXX please~
^_^;;

Nice scoop sTwo buddy! :) Thanks for the news! Alot of Shirow fans will sleep better (I hope) with this latest update. But as usual, nothing is definite in the world of Shirow, so treat this as a tentative schedule. My greatest hope is that Shirow can follow through this project right to the end of Book #8.

p/s: That's alot of naughty pictures to come from Shirow Sensei... :P

Tentative Release Schedule:
GALGREASE 1st Artbook: Nov, 2005
GALGREASE 2nd Artbook: Jan, 2006
GALGREASE 3rd Artbook: Mar, 2006
GALGREASE 4th Artbook: Sep, 2006
GALGREASE 5th Artbook: Nov, 2006
GALGREASE 6th Artbook: Jan, 2007
GALGREASE 7th Artbook: Jul, 2007
GALGREASE 8th Artbook: Sep, 2007

I should hope there's some story in there, because as much as I like his art it's kind of disappointing that at this point in his life he seems to be content with just drawing scantly clad women and not telling an actual story.

Well, it sells. In fact it sells extremely well :) Anyway, I think let Shirow Sensei get this out of his system... then maybe we will see another sci-fi cyberpunk epic (I hope so!) :)

Scantily clad (or nothing clad) Shirow women are always better than no Shirow women I say :P

painting nudes and figures has a long, well-established history in art. some of the greatest masters have been content to devote a great deal of effort representing scantily clad women (and men for that matter, i guess). i say, between major projects (like gits: man-machine interface) shirow should be permitted to indulge a bit.

Between? I've gotten the impression that he considers himself done, and that he created some kind of Appleseed guidebook for anyone who wanted to keep doing stuff for that world. Kind of like saying: "Here you go, if you what more cyberpunk sci-fi, make it yourself! I'll be busy making story snippets with naked women." :)

And I can't blame him, because story snippets are much easier and more fun to make than looong stories. And I don't really mind either, except for the fact that I can't read Japanese. But I guess stories about naked women might make me learn. ;)

I think it was neurohard that was the "expandible universe". Appleseed would indeed be a great universe to make fancomics with, but I think the databooks were "intended" to just be peripherals, or am I wrong?

No, you seem to be right. I probably confused Neurohard with something else that was related to Appleseed.

About time these are coming out.

I think Shirow's going to let the movies/TV show/game(s) take over his series for him.

I like the movie, but I hope that the TV show, and hopefully future games, take on the style of his comics and are closer adaptations. I want to see more of the Appleseed world, I want to talk to characters in the comics like I would if it were an RPG, not just go around and blow stuff up (though that would be nice ^_^). I hope whoever takes over the series for him does a good job with it.

Now all we can hope for is some bright spark decideing to have the books multi-lingual similar to the Intron Depot books.

Well, multi-lingual or not, this series is "sure-sell" due to the nature of the content :P Anyway, English would be very much welcome, just whether Dark Horse has any policy against 18SX stuff.
