GITS 1.5 Human Error Processor by Dark Horse in Spring '06

At this year's San Diego Comic Con, Dark Horse Comics announced their upcoming manga titles, among them:

Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor— A limited comics series from manga legend Shirow Masamune. Human-Error Processor is a series of stories originally serialized as part of Ghost in the Shell 2 but not included by Shirow in the Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface collection. The stories are Fat Cat from 1991, Drive Slave from 1992, Mines of Mind from 1995, and Lost Past from 1996. This series will be presented in non-Westerized format (reading right to left), as originally published, in black-and-white with color. Arriving spring 2006.

Cover for the CD-Rom + Book Japanese Version GITS 1.5 HEP by Kodansha

Interestingly, this was mentioned as a Comic, not the e-manga CD-Rom+Book format released by Kodansha in 2003. Will be watching out for any further news on this. Thanks to Dragon ^_^ Mark this in your 2006 diary folks!

:::: Updated 22nd July 2005 ::::

Here's a comment from Chris Warner, Dark Horse editor for Ghost In The Shell with more details on the plans for GITS Human-Error Processor:

Hi, this is Chris Warner, Dark Horse editor for Ghost in the Shell. Human-Error Processor is planned as a serialized comic, eight issues, non-Westernized beginning next spring (probably April) and then will be collected (likely early 2007) including the CD (which will be left untranslated) packaged with the Kodansha collection. I know that some would rather we go straight to collection, but the time required to do the translation correctly--Fred Schodt will again translate, at Mr. Shirow's request--lends itself to serialization rather than going directly to collection.

Thanks Chris! The information is much appreciated! ^_^

Cool! I've got the Japanese version of GITS 1.5 but can't read it : It'll be nice to be able to understand the story now :)

Oh, this is awesome! I was hoping DH would eventually release this over here, but I figured they never would. This is too good to be true.

I'm glad it's in book format and not the e-manga CD format. I'd much rather have a concrete, physical version of it in my hands than letting my eyes bleed staring at a computer screen for too long! ^_^

From my understanding, it's going to be released the same way as the Japanese version with both a book and a cd-rom.

2006 already looks like a splendid year for Shirow releases! :)

I would assume it would be translated. They wouldn't have to really do much work with it since the translation would already be completed.

GITS 1.5 was translated and printed in Poland around year ago by JPF, with a booklet and cd-rom (not translated). I'm glad to have this book, and I'm not sure how You guys feel, but this is my favourite part of GITS :)

Interesting... Margaret, the booklet you mentioned - what's it about? Was it in Japanese also?

It seems that so far Spanish & Polish GITS 1.5 CD-Roms were not translated. Would be curious to see if any effort was made for Dark Horse's version. Wow, the European fans are getting ther Shirows fast! :)

And yeah, GITS 1.5 is a little gem of Shirow nostalgia. I like it for the fact that its a collection of short, stand alone stories, emulated by the TV series :) And another great thing is the focus on the other members of Section-9 post Major Kusanagi.

Hi Chris, thanks for visiting! And also many thanks for the detailed information on Human Error-Processor.

Its good to know that Mr. Fred Schodt will be handling the translations, and I personally appreciate the consistency, and Fred has indeed done a superb job in the past (which Shirow Sensei must have acknowledged).

Looking forward to this release and congratulations to Dark Horse for securing Shirow's agreement to bring us more Ghost In The Shell! ^_^ Thanks again for the info Chris. And if there's any way I can help let me know.

- Lucas.
